We are lucky to have a large, bright classroom where we learn with our friends and teachers; Mrs McLean (Monday - Thursday) and Mrs Russell (Friday). We have a teaching assistant called Mrs McGuire and a classroom assistant apprentice called Miss Edgar.
We work hard at our English and maths every morning and start each day with thirty minutes of phonics. We have fun challenging ourselves and get excited about new learning. In the afternoons we concentrate on topic work.
On Tuesdays we have singing with Robin Class and raise the roof as we learn new songs with Mrs McLean on her guitar. We have P.E. twice a week. Mrs Emery takes us for gym, dance and movement and we have a sports coach for multi-skills.
This term in Kingfisher class we are very excited about our new topic; “An African Experience”. We will be finding out about the country of Kenya, looking at its features and the lifestyle of the people. We will try some Kenyan art and crafts and paint an African landscape in the style of artist Tilly Willis. We will also design and make a fruit salad, using some unusual fruit. In our dance work we will make our own dances to traditional African music.
Our music topic on sound will give us the chance to explore and use some traditional African instruments.
In science we will be thinking about seasonal change and will be investigating and growing plants. Our history topic at the end of term is Florence Nightingale.
Our English and maths work will continue every morning and some afternoons too! We will be using drama, discussion, role play and art to inspire our written work.
We enjoy maths and get very excited about our reasoning and problem solving activities, sometimes we ask Mrs McLean for harder problems to solve, we love our HOT challenges!
Kingfisher class has a lot to look forward to this term!
