Blackbirds. Years R and 1

Spring Term Blackbird Class

In Blackbird class we have five Reception children and eighteen Year 1 children. Our Teachers are Mrs McLean on Monday and Tuesday and Mrs Moore on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Turner, and we have some regular volunteers who help us with our learning too. We have a lovely bright classroom with different areas to work and play in. We also have an outside area with lots of equipment and resources to explore.

We are looking forward to a fun term of learning in Blackbird Class.  We will be working inside and outside as usual and will be looking for signs of Spring in our grounds.  We will start to plan and plant our garden patch.

Our main topic this term is called, "Where do I live?" this will see us looking at our world, our country and our local area.  We will even think about what our earth looks like from space.  We will find out about the first moon landings and pictures of our world from the moon.  We will make giant space homes and turn our role play area into a space home.  We will have fun composing space music.  Then we will look at the parts of our country and focus on the differences between our part of England and a Scottish island.  In science we find out about properties of simple common-place materials and will be thinking about Spring changes.

The children will cover maths and English activities every morning through teacher led and self-initiated activities.

The children need PE kit in school every day: their timetabled PE sessions are on Wednesday and Friday. Please ensure that long hair is tied back for PE. The children can bring in a named bottle of water each day to keep in the classroom but if they forget there are cups and water available.

If you have need to speak to us, you can catch us before or after school or please feel free to make an appointment through the school office.

For more information about what we are learning please look at the curriculum maps on our curriculum pages.

We are looking forward to an exciting term playing and learning together.
